Mr. Voves
At an early age, I knew my life’s calling was to be a teacher. Much of who I am today is the result of many wonderful teachers throughout my own education that inspired me to grow not only as a student, but as a individual. Today, I strive to have this same positive impact on my own students. Growing up in Ionia, I attended school in New Hampton and graduated high school in 2003. I then attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. While at Wartburg, I was a member of the vocal jazz ensemble, Castle Singers. As a performer, I participated in tours including a Caribbean cruise and a month-long tour of Europe. I also participated in Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Chi, Kappa Delta Pi, and Kappa Mu Epsilon. In 2007, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics Education and a minor in Leadership Studies. In 2009, I started my graduate program at the University of Northern Iowa in Educational Leadership. Completing more than eight hundred hours of administrative internship experiences at the elementary, middle, and high school level, I obtained my K-12 Principal License in December of 2011. For the last nine years, I have taught math at Charles City High School. Teaching assignments have included General Math, Elementary Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, College Algebra and Construction "4" the Numbers. From 2010 to 2015, I served as the district's Math Department Chair. In 2013, I received KIMT's Golden Apple Teaching Award and in 2015, received Charles City's Excellence in Education Foundation's Excellence in the Workplace Star Award. Everyday is an opportunity to learn and grow - an opportunity for both my students and myself. While I enjoy mathematics, my goal is to teach students knowledge far beyond that found within any textbook, and help them grow as young adults. Therefore, I strive to “craft that perfect balance of firmness and understanding, of guidance and freedom, of mentor and friend.” |
